My name is Antonia Adomako and I am 20 (soon 21) years old and this blog is dedicated to the BA Contemporary Media Cultures. I am based in London, United Kingdom and grew up in Berlin, Germany. I am interested in photography, the arts, writing and music. I am also interested in learning about different cultures, different identities and cultural movements as well as subcultures. By learning about these subjects, I can later incorporate them in my photographic and research work.
Why did I choose to study CMC at LCC?
I have always been engaged in cultural and social activities all through my life. My mother used to ‘drag’ me to several meetings, plays, open discussions and social clubs, in support of the black german community in Berlin. She has always been an activist, speaking out against racism and discrimination, which she experiences since being born black in Germany in the 1960s. She inspired me to be more curious about how the world is structured and works. The influence of adverts, religion and politics, as well as social norms, has struck me more and more since being a teenager. She has told me many stories of her time as an aupair in London in the 80s, telling me how I would love the diversity of the city. I have now lived in London for more than a year, doing photography on the side. Studying Contemporary Media Cultures seemed to be the right path for me, as it combines my love for visual and written media with subjects like identity and culture.
